South Wolfeboro bay is iced in. Wolfeboro Bay is iced in. The Broads are still open but as usual should be solid before the end of January. Ron Snyder has got the bug from last year and he's itching to get back on the ice. He started 2010 with a bang by icing a tagged rainbow trout right in front of the cottage on January 3rd!

In light of Jon's victory in 2008, let's not forget why it's so impressive...

enjoy the highlight video from Jon's 2007 performance below...

Who will take home the coveted King of the Ice Cup in 2009??? How will the new team concept change the dynamic of the derby?

Prior Champions:

2009 Duncan Fitts Who would have ever thought that a cluless flunky like Duncan would see his name grace the King of the Ice Cup twice before the likes of Jeff Poulos, Pete Civitenga or Chris Fitts even claim victory once? 2010 will mark 25 years since Chris and Pete began this annual fishing expedition and Jeff Poulos whas been hitting the ice with this crew since the late 90's. Duncan, who ties knots that some fish have been able to untie and spools line onto his reels backwards proves that there is one attribute an ice derby champion must have more than any other; SHIT LUCK.
2008 Jon Robinson
Robinson
Perennial underdog and 2007 Derby Goat Jon Robinson stuns the ice fishing world in 2008 with a "one fish = one win" performance. Just 12 monts afte Robsinson's famous "Derby Debacle" in which he drove a two wheel drive Honda sendan down an steep snowmobile trail requiring valuable time and manpower to get it unstuck, nearly sinking a snowmobile in Lake Winnipesaukee while trying to cross thin ice, stalling a power auger getting it stuck in the ice, etc. Jon  turned the table on everyone icing the weekend's heaviest fish while still aquiring the most total hours of sleep amongst the entire group.
2007 Eric Kraeger

When the flag went up anglers ran towards it wondering whose flag it was. When it was realized that it was Eric's tip-up the complaints came quickly, but before that fish was pulled from the lake, it's rightful master appraoched at a sizzling 80 mph with a trail of toilet paper streaming from the rear of his snow pants. Eric arrived on snowmobile just in time to legally claim his prize fish and take over the lead which he wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the derby.
2006 Jeff Dalloway
In 2006 The "Back to the Bay" experiment did not go according to plan. Along with marginal ice conditions and an abundance of rain we had to endure painfully slow flag action at the 2006 Ice Derby. However it was not an all out failure. As the case always is, someone wins the derby and this year the win was well deserved and was punctuated by a LITERAL LAST second fish iced by Jeff Dollaway. Only two lakers were iced all weekend and only one came during the official derby days. The same can be said for rainbow trout. This year marked the first year we have ever landed a rainbow on "derby weekend". More on the 2006 Derby...
2005 Duncan Fitts
Though Duncan did not repeat as the derby champ, he did better than 90% of the field by landing a fish and getting on the board. His 7" non-flag tripping scrawny perch had Duncan smiling from 5:00 pm on Saturday night until 11:59 am on Sunday when Jeff Dolloway's final 30 seconds trout reduced Duncan's share of the pot from $200 to $38.00

Way to go kid...
2004 Kevin Poulos 2004 King of the Ice, Kevin Poulos is poised for a comeback. He has been heard bragging about his 2006 deby performance as though the cup has already been engraved with his name. He has repeatedly denounced Duncan's 2005 victory as the greatest feat of luck he has ever witnessed. He claims that Duncan unfairly baited his hole throughout the weekend and tops of his claims by charging that Duncan poured  gasoline down Kevin's holes last year to dilute his chances. When asked how he feels the large field of competitors on tap for '06 will effect his chances he stated "most of these guys are rookies, or might as well be. None of them are in the same class as me and the only chance they've got is a lucky streak like Duncan had last year. Otherwise I am the clear favorite to win this thing." He went on to say "I'm f'n tired..."
